Post-Bac Prep’ISIMA : Become a Computer Engineer
ISIMA opens its doors to high school students wishing to become computer engineers by offering a two-year post-bac preparatory course, called Prép’ISIMA, in partnership with the University of Clermont Auvergne. This course offers 33 places each year.
How do I apply for Prép’ISIMA?
Applicants must submit their application on Parcoursup for the Prep’ISIMA course, selecting the “Cycle Universitaire Préparatoire aux Grandes Ecoles” (CUPGE) in the Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne region. You’ll find the CUPGE – Prep’ISIMA preparatory course in the course search engine.
For some years now, we have also been recruiting students who have successfully completed their first year of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Clermont Auvergne. These students can enter the second year of Prep’ISIMA directly. N1 students are informed of the application procedure in June.
What are the recruitment conditions for this preparatory course?
A special ISIMA jury selects candidates for the Prep’ISIMA course on the basis of their applications. The jury looks at a number of factors:
- Grades obtained in Première and Terminale classes
- The specialities followed
- Teachers’ assessments
- The applicant’s proposed course of study
The jury examines the grades obtained by the candidates in Première and Terminale.
For candidates selected by the jury, final registration is subject to obtaining the Baccalauréat.

Taking the “Mathématiques expertes” option is strongly recommended.
How does this preparatory program work?
Successful candidates will follow the curriculum of the first two years of the Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (N1 and N2) at the University of Clermont Auvergne, with specific modules taught by ISIMA teachers.
In the first year, Prep’ISIMA students will attend N1 courses offered in the Mathematics-Computer Science program (see the Bachelor’s program for details on subjects). In the second year, they will attend N2 Computer Science courses with a Minor in Mathematics before specializing in computer science in the middle of the second year.
The specific modules are taught by ISIMA in its premises. Here are some examples of these modules (subject to change):
- Introduction to Imaging (12 hours)
- Mathematics for Engineers (12 hours)
- Linux Development Workshop (14 hours)
- Computer Science Careers: ISIMA alumni engineers come to present their careers (12 hours)
- Modeling, Solution, Programming (30 hours)
- Virtual Reality (30 hours)
- Project (30 hours)
Students in this program receive personalized support through the ISIMA teacher responsible for Prép’ISIMA.
Advantages of the Program
- Privileged access to ISIMA: Students in this program will be automatically admitted to ISIMA (in the first year of the engineering cycle), provided they pass both years of the bachelor’s degree in two years and in the first session, with at least 12/20 each year and in each of the modules within the specific units of the Prép’ISIMA program.
- Students in this program have access to ISIMA’s student associations and school events.
