Internships : essential immersion in the professional world
Internships play a central role in ISIMA’s students’ training. Thanks to numerous privileged links with companies, our engineering students have the opportunity to undertake 3 to 6 month internships, depending on their year of training and their course (see ISIMA_2024-2025 Calendar of periods spent in companies).
As a result, work placements cover a wide range of business sectors, including :
- organizational computing (large companies, SMEs/SMIs, banks, insurance companies, public services, tertiary sector, industrial sector, defense, etc.)
- computing and modeling of industrial systems
- scientific calculation and modeling (aeronautics, automotive, transport…)
- construction of computer hardware or provision of computer engineering services (ESN)
- computer security
- research and development (university laboratories, CNES, CEA, INRAE…)
- multimedia and internet development (website design, security…)
- networks and telecommunications
- …
Every ISIMA student can do an internship in each year of their course. Internships are compulsory in the 2nd and 3rd years of the Engineering Diploma, as well as in Master 1 and Master 2, regardless of the course followed.
Every year, companies and research organisations take on nearly 400 students in France or abroad, under an internship agreement signed with the school.
As part of the ISIMA engineering degree, students must complete a compulsory international mobility programme of at least 17 weeks. This mobility can take the form of an internship or study abroad (semester, full year, double international degree).
Submit your offers
Companies and organisations interested in hosting a trainee can submit their offers directly to ISIMA’s Corporate Relations department.
This is an opportunity to work with future engineers with solid, specialised skills in high-demand areas such as software development, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, embedded systems and data science.
Are you an ISIMA student?
All the information you need about internships, agreements and validation is available on the ENT (Environnement Numérique de Travail), under the heading Pédagogie > Cours en ligne / Stages ISIMA. A regularly updated Internship Guide is also available.
Internships abroad
Students wishing to do a work placement abroad can receive personalised support from the Internships and International Relations Office, your key contact for all mobility projects.
Contacts
The Internships and International Relations Office is your first point of contact, so don’t hesitate to ask for any information you may need.
Head of Internships and Company Relations : Pascale GRANET – entreprise@isima.fr
International Relations Officer : Sophie WALSH – international@isima.fr
International Mobility Grants
You may be eligible for a number of grants for international mobility, depending on your personal situation and the type of mobility (study, work placement, Europe….) :
- AMI (Crous)
- Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Regional Council grant
- Erasmus grant
- City of Clermont-Ferrand grant
- Additional grant from ISIMA (subject to conditions)
Each application is the subject of a specific file, assessed according to a number of criteria : academic results, coherence of the professional project, language level, financial criteria, motivations, previous international experience.
Applications for placements abroad must be submitted to the Traineeships Office by mid-January at the latest. The grants committee meets in February, and each student is informed individually of the results.
