Presentation of the Double Degree
The double degree in Mathematics and Computer Science offered by the University of Clermont Auvergne (UCA), in partnership with ISIMA, is a course of excellence that is unique in France. In just three years, students earn two Bachelor’s degrees: one in Mathematics, the other in Computer Science.
This demanding course is aimed at students with a passion for the sciences and a desire to acquire a highly valued dual skill. By combining theoretical rigour and mastery of digital tools, it prepares students for future fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Applied Mathematics.
ISIMA, a recognised engineering school, offers its expertise in software engineering and digital innovation, guaranteeing a training programme that is both academic and professional.
Conditions of admission
1. Admission via Parcoursup (entry to L1)
High school students can apply from the end of their final year on the Parcoursup platform.
Each year, 30 places are opened up, guaranteeing individual follow-up. Students are selected on the basis of their academic record and motivation. Candidates from a wide range of backgrounds can apply: why not you?
2. Admission during the course (after S1)
Students enrolled in the first year of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Computer Science at the UCA can join the dual degree course in the second semester or year, subject to good results and commitment.
In all cases, motivation for both disciplines and a taste for hard work are decisive criteria.
Curriculum and organization of studies
The course is organised around a balanced mix of fundamental mathematics (algebra, analysis, probability, etc.) and computer science (programming, algorithms, data structures, etc.).
The courses are supplemented by
- Practical work in small groups
- Supervised projects to help students put their knowledge into practice
- A gradual opening up to applied fields such as AI, software development, modelling and scientific computing.
Students benefit from a structured timetable and practical work in small groups, enabling in-depth, collaborative learning.
Support and flexibility
Student success is at the heart of the teaching system, with :
- Individualised support throughout the course
- Teaching resources adapted to an intensive pace
- Structured flexibility, with two key features:
– Reversibility: the possibility of changing to a single degree (Mathematics or Computer Science) at the end of each semester, after discussion with the teaching staff
– Deferred integration: access to the dual degree after a successful first year in a traditional degree, subject to validation of the application.
ISIMA and the UCA make it a point of honour to support each student throughout his or her course, offering appropriate teaching resources and personalised follow-up.
Benefits and strengths of the Double Degree
This unique course combines the strengths of UCA and ISIMA to offer a dual skill set that is highly sought after on the job market.
In 3 years, students acquire rare expertise in mathematics and computer science, opening doors to careers in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, cybersecurity and research.
What’s more, the double bachelor’s degree is an ideal springboard for access to the UCA’s masters programmes, including Artificial Intelligence, as well as to the specialities offered by ISIMA, which is nationally recognised for the quality of its teaching and its partnerships with industry.
