F3 – Information Systems and Decision Support


The objective is to train engineers capable of creating and maintaining reliable information systems that integrate into a company’s tools. This requires designing applications to store information (locally, in the cloud, in existing database systems) to feed either reporting tools (creating dashboards, etc.), intelligent data analysis tools for decision-making, or operational tools that manage the company’s daily operations.

The digitalization of businesses, the move to the cloud, and the ever-increasing volume of data demand today’s engineers to understand and model computer systems to make them more efficient and robust. Companies are becoming increasingly connected and exchange real-time information (stock availability, orders, invoices, etc.). Public organizations require connections to submit or exchange invoices. All these data exchanges require engineers trained in data modeling, understanding, and integration.


The training is designed to provide students with the technical skills and knowledge needed to excel in this constantly evolving field. It includes:

  • Computer fundamentals: Students gain a solid foundation in programming, computer security, and essential knowledge of Information Systems (IS).
  • Project management: Students learn best practices in project management for planning, monitoring, and implementing IT solutions. Different project methods (Waterfall, Agile methods, Scrum, etc.) are covered.
  • Databases: A significant emphasis is placed on database fundamentals and the optimized and secure management of both relational and non-relational databases. The training includes a Big Data course, where approaches to managing and analyzing large datasets are studied. Tools studied include Oracle NoSQL, Redis, Cassandra, and MongoDB. Code parallelization tools are also studied, such as map-reduce, Hadoop, and Storm.
  • Information Systems: Various modules allow students to gain a good understanding of information systems (ERP, supply chain management, application integration, web services, data governance, etc.).
  • Business Intelligence/Decision Support: Courses focus on designing and implementing reliable decision support systems, allowing valuable insights to be extracted from raw data and presented effectively to decision-makers. Creating complex data flows, modeling a data warehouse, and data quality management are taught through real-world cases encountered in the professional world.
  • Data Science: The training offers data analysis techniques, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, data visualization, statistical modeling, and data mining.
  • Optimization and Operations Research: Students explore optimization methods to solve complex planning and logistics problems. They acquire skills in modeling and simulating dynamic and stochastic processes for the analysis of complex and uncertain systems. Operations Research courses address the creation of digital twins through a simulation course.
  • Quantum computing represents a major revolution in information technology. Instead of using classical bits to represent data, it relies on qubits, quantum units that can exist in multiple states simultaneously through superposition and entanglement. This promising approach opens up new perspectives for solving complex problems, such as large number factorization, quantum simulation, and artificial intelligence research.

Students in the Information Systems and Decision Support program have access to a variety of methods and tools, including:

  • Programming: C++, Java EE, Eclipse, Netbeans, Visual Studio, etc.
  • Project management systems: Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Databases: SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Neo4J, etc.
  • Big Data Technologies: Map-reduce, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, etc.
  • Data integration: ETL Talend, Microsoft SSIS, Apache N8N, EAI, SOA, etc.
  • Reporting, Cube, and Data Visualization: Tableau Software, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft SSAS, etc.
  • ERP: Oracle, CEGID, etc.
  • Data Analysis: R, Python (pandas, scikit-learn), etc.
  • Operations Research: CPLEX, etc.
